2023: Less is More
I’ve never been the type of person to make New Year’s resolutions or even choose a word of the year, but 2023 is different. I wasn’t setting out to change, but God clearly put one word on my heart and mind for this year: Less.
What does that even mean? As I’m now three months into this life of less, I’m discovering all of the ways I truly need this word. Less stress, less pressure, less judgment, less on my calendar, less junk food, less anger, less striving, less perfection, less people pleasing, less toxins, less screen time, less overwhelm, less consumption, less clutter…all in all, just…less.
This idea of less has been a welcomed change in my personal life and I’ve been contemplating what it looks like in the life of Terra Cotta Blooms. Last year I had the privilege of selling flowers directly to a few florists and I truly loved the experience. While I love being able to create the perfect arrangement for a customer or friend, there is something refreshing about harvesting flowers, delivering them to a florist, and trusting them to make the magic for their customers.
This positive experience has inspired a shift in vision for 2023. Moving forward this year, we will be focusing mainly on selling wholesale to florists in the DFW area. So if you have a favorite florist, send them our way!
So what does that mean for you, our beloved customers? I’m not entirely sure. I’m still figuring things out and they may shift as the season goes on, but we’ll be sure to update you via email and on Instagram.
For now, we’re planning on opening the online shop later in the season as Spring blooms have been slow to arrive this year. We are currently taking custom orders and you can reach out via email, text, or call to set up an order. We are also planning to take flowers to Mudleaf Coffee and do some special offerings with priority given to email subscribers.
While this is a difficult decision because I don’t like letting people down, I keep reminding myself of what “less” really means for me. It means: more time with my husband and young kids, more sleep, more walks with my dog, more mental space, more enjoyment of nature, more classes at Barre3, more support for local florists, more healthy home-cooked meals, more journaling, more life, more peace, more joy. Because in this current season, less truly is more.
